The Spic & Span Mfuleni Street Project

Sponsor: Raymond Ackerman Academy of Entrepreneurial Development

On the morning of Saturday the 28th March 2009, 23 students from the Raymond Ackerman Academy of Entrepreneurial Development participated in THE SPIC & SPAN MFULENI STREET PROJECT.

The aim of this initiative was to paint the front perimeter vibracrete walls and fences of the residents in Church & School streets homes in Mfuleni followed by sweeping and picking up litter to make it a clean environment for the children in the area.

On behalf of the rest of our NEWKIDZ team, I want to commend the Raymond Ackerman Academy of Entrepreneurial Development for what they are doing for the youth of South Africa. The students that we interacted with on Saturday morning are fine men and women who are destined to be leaders in society not just because of their knowledge but mainly because of their characters. The quality of the workmanship and the camaraderie amongst the students made it an absolute pleasure for us as a team, to work with.

Despite the time restraints, we were able to achieve more than we expected. The team painted all the earmarked perimeter residential walls in School and Church streets in neutral, clean colours. Some houses that didn’t have boundary walls but rather wire fencing or bushes but had wooden gates, these we painted in bright red, green and blue. This made them look so quaint and pretty.

Since the brightening up of these two streets, we have received numerous messages of appreciation from the residents, many of whom confided in us that they didn’t have the means to purchase the materials to do this work themselves and so this gesture was a true blessing to them.

Thank you for making a real difference!
