Mzamowethu EduCare

Sponsor: Ackermans

Ackermans staff members, who adopted Mzamowethu EduCare in Mfuleni as their Ububele Volunteering Initiative, arrived at the EduCare in full force on Friday morning.

They were very well prepared and each team member knew exactly what their responsibility was prior to their arrival.

There was no time to loose and they worked methodically throughout the day with only a short break at midday.

While they were busy with their tasks, a small team of men from Cape Core Construction paved the playground that was previously just a sandy area.

At 3 o’clock there was a mad scurry to finish all the final touches like putting up curtain rails, hanging curtains; unpacking the mountain of amazing donations that they brought with for this centre; sweeping; washing windows etc. Etc.

There was a great atmosphere of excitement as they finished off. To add to the excitement, one of their staff members dressed up in a bear suit for the handing over ceremony. Shame he was sweltering under all that cover but it was great fun to see.

Vuyokazi cut the ribbon and with a round of applause, she and her Grade R teachers entered the beautifully created classroom. What a difference…it brought them to tears to see their previously bare classroom converted into a bright; full and colourful room.

This team of Ackermans staff painted the interior and exterior of the building; fitted shelves; put up curtain rails; hung beautifully made curtains; decorated the various activity areas in the Grade R classroom with cushions, carpets, books, educational toys, story books and toys. The baby room got two additional camp cots; a changing table with changing mats (previously the carers had to bend down and change the over 30 babies and toddlers nappies on the floor – back breaking!); toys; blankets and bottles.

They also received a television set for the children’s enjoyment.

On behalf of NEWKIDZ, a BIG thank you to Ackermans for choosing this worthy project and a HUGE congratulations to the entire team for the awesome achievement.

The seeds of hope that these staff members planted into Mzamowethu EduCare, in the heart of Mfuleni, will truly bear much fruit for the young generation who attend this centre.
