Another phenomenal project, sponsored by Woolworths Trust, has impacted on the lives of 40 young abandoned and orphaned boys and girls who call Fikelela Children’s Centre, in Khayelitsha, their home and many more who will find refuge there in the future.

Over a 3-day period, an extra-ordinary amount of work was accomplished with the help of close to 190 Woolworths staff members, who really got their hands dirty, and the support and generosity of 28 contractors who contributed in making this project such a huge success.

While the work was underway, the staff and children had the privilege of enjoying the comfort and hospitality of the Lagoon Beach Hotel where they were hosted for free for the 3-days.

The contractors and suppliers where extremely generous in supporting this initiative and as a result, we were able to do far more than what we originally planned:

Joos Joinery Jacks Paint & Hardware (Claremont) Wasteman
Cape Core Construction Bespokebathrooms & AGD (mirrors) A&C Maintenance & Construction
Blind IT Camilla Fraser Interior Celmar
Chubb Security KB Security Lagoon Beach Hotel
Megacoach Millennium Floor Covering Mural maniac
Newlife Plastics Romatex Sales Hire
Slip Cover Solutions Speelgoedland Vertica Electrical
Voltic Couriers Window Line Cardinal Flooring
Ambius Thompson’s Plumbing Trellidor

The finished product looked really amazing to the astonishment of the staff and children when they returned on the Friday afternoon and the ribbon had been cut.

For Newkidz on the Block, our vision is to create awareness and support of orphaned and vulnerable children in the hope that many of them will be integrated into loving families and we believe that after this project, 190+ people, and their families, have been introduced to this centre and we trust that seeds to either host, foster and adopt children or support centres like Fikelela will bear much fruit.
