Mandela Day 2014
PART ONE: SOS CHILDREN’S VILLAGE
The weather predicted for Friday the 18th July was not conducive for outdoor painting and so we had no alternative but to postpone the project to decorate the extremely long perimeter wall of the SOS Children’s Village in Thornton on:
Sunday the 19th July with 107 students from Wilde Ganzen (Holland)
Monday the 20th July with members of staff from:
- Metropolitan Life
- Collage of Cape Town
The end product looked absolutely amazing and completely different from what it looked like originally.
Thanks to Theo from Mural Maniac (www.muralmaniac.co.za) who prepared the walls with all the murals and to Jack’s Paint & Hardware in Claremont (021-6711673) who gave us a generous discount and donation towards the paint and the accessories needed for the project.
PART TWO: WOOLWORTHS HEAD OFFICE
Newkidz also had the privilege of being the conduit of distributing beautifully (and original) designed cupcakes created by the Woolworths Head Office staff plus goodie bags plus a box filled with bananas, to different centres:
- Fikelela Children’s Home – Khayelitsha
- St Georges Home for girls – Wynberg
- SA Children’s Home – Gardens
- Ons Plek Siviwe House – Woodstock
- Dusk to Dawn Shelter – Ravensmead
We also received a large quantity of groceries that we will be distributing to different educare centres and foster families that we support.
A big thank you to Woolworths Head Office for including us in this special day. It certainly brought smiles to many, many children.
