Butterfly Way is a marginalized educare and crèche situated in the Vrygrond area of the Cape
This area is one where housing is inadequate, drug abuse is rife and crime is prolific. Butterfly Way aims to serve this community by providing care and education to almost 60 children whose households can barely, if at all, afford the minimum fee’s. The centre was started by Penny Way, who is doing an unbelievable job for the community.
Butterfly Way manages to do so much for the families of Vrygrond, however due to lack of funding, the facility was not in good shape. The first and most important need identified for the children and staff was the toilet area. The shack structure only had two “barely working” toilets in. So with the help of Woolworths, Newkidz was able to fit a completely new Nu Tec structure for the educare. It was then custom equipped with three toilets and a basin. It is safe and the children are now able to feel dignified in their facility. They were also in desperate need of some electrical repairs, plumbing and shelving, which were all granted.
There was also a great need to upgrade to their classrooms. Woolworth’s staff happily came and spent the day doing some physical work of cleaning, sanding and painting! We managed to get the classrooms painted, the Nu Tec structure done as well as the kitchen and pantry for a whole new look and feel.
It was extremely rewarding to see our goal reached in such a short time. The atmosphere was fantastic throughout the project. Additional to all that was done for Butterfly by Woolworths, we were able to supply Penny & her team with new tiles for her kitchen & pantry.
She was also given printer that they were in need of. We managed to also have a big piece of their wall filled up so that the kids are safe in their classrooms.
A BIG THANK YOU to WOOLWORTHS for this incredible impact on the lives of so many children.
